Water footprint calculation is performed to determine the overall water consumption of an organization or product and the environmental impacts associated with water use. This calculation includes direct water consumption (e.g. water used in production processes) and indirect water consumption (e.g. water use in the supply chain). The water footprint is divided into three main components: blue water (use of surface and groundwater), green water (use of soil moisture and rainwater) and gray water (water that reflects the impact of water pollution).
